From a young age, Priya was deeply connected to the spiritual aspects of life, fostering a profound appreciation for the harmony between mind, body, and soul.
Growing up surrounded by the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda, these practices became an integral part of her cultural identity.
Years later, when she became a mother, Priya felt an even stronger need to nurture her physical body and overall well-being, seeking deeper alignment and balance in her life.
As a school teacher, Priya came to understand that self-care was essential to support and give her best to those around her. While her work with children and teens was deeply fulfilling, it often left her emotionally and physically drained. She also noticed how her body had transformed over the years, especially after pregnancy, and realized the importance of prioritizing wellness to feel her best.
Priya’s fascination with yoga philosophy led her to start journaling daily, a practice that deepened her self-awareness. Inspired, she enrolled in an Ashtanga yoga teacher training program. The fluidity, discipline, and meditative essence of traditional yoga captivated her. She embarked on this journey not only to deepen her personal practice but also to share the transformative power of yoga with people worldwide.
Over the years, Priya has studied with renowned teachers and continues to expand her expertise through ongoing training. She has specialized in various disciplines, including Yin Yoga, Pranayama, mindfulness, trauma-aware practices, and stress management. Her journey of exploration also introduced her to complementary holistic practices such as Reiki, sound healing with Tibetan bowls, and crystal energy work.
Through her practice, Priya discovered the profound physical and emotional benefits of yoga. She embraced styles like Yin, Hatha, Nidra, and gentle yoga, adapting her approach to the needs of her body and her students. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes tuning into emotional states and bodily awareness, allowing her to tailor her classes intuitively to different groups and individuals.
Yoga not only nourishes Priya’s soul but also fuels her creative passions. She rekindled her love for painting and began hosting meditation and mandala creation classes, incorporating art therapy as a tool to help students reduce stress and anxiety. She now exhibits her zen-inspired artwork in showcases and shares the therapeutic power of creativity with others.
Inspired by her journey, Priya founded Prana Yoga Shala in the West Island community following her yoga teacher training. As her studio evolved, so did her teachings. Today, she leads invigorating and intelligently sequenced group classes enriched with uplifting music and calming energy. Beyond the studio, Priya travels the world to teach yoga retreats, blending her love for yoga and exploration.
A proud member of the Yoga Alliance, Priya continuously advances her education to uphold the highest standards in health and wellness. Her mission is to bring yoga into everyday life, helping her students find peace, joy, and love within themselves— and inspiring them to spread that positivity to the world around them.
